KIRKUS REVIEW
In what sense is the Old Testament the word of God, and how is that word communicated to people today? What does it say, and how are the many hindrances to understanding to be dealt with? The Rev. Gabriel Hebert, of the Society of the Sacred Mission, Keiham, England, addresses himself to these matters, and shares with his readers the insight that it is Faith in God which is important, and he shows how the Old Testament material has this Faith as its common concern. So the reader is guided to see the real issues of faith in the various stages of Old Testament history, and how these reach their ""fulfillment"" in the New Testament. The results of literary criticism and historical study are accepted and used, but not discussed. The result is most useful orientation to the positive and constructive Old Testament which permits the reader to feel comfortable about his own difficulties and misgivings and to see things whole again. Meant for lay people primarily, this good little book should be commended to them freely.
