Abstract
Library Journal Review
Dr. Pruett, a professor of Psychiatry at Yale University's Child Study Center, recently completed a five-year study of 17 two-parent families whose primary caregiver was the father. In this highly readable, intelligent, but not altogether objective report of his findings, the author enthusiastically concludes that fathers nurture well but differently. Though Pruett focuses on three families, discussing their problems and coping strategies, over half the material relates to subjects like competition among parents, continued paternal nurturance after divorce, gender role confusions, and long-term fathering solutions. A generously supportive book that updates James A. Levine's Who Will Raise the Children? ( LJ 9/15/76). Recommended for parenting and professional collections.
